Debt crisis
Unless the Euro or dollar actually collapses, you can probably forget about the impact of debt on the stock markets. How do I know? Because Google told me so. If I type "debt" into Google Trends, this is the picture I obtain:
Admittedly, the point of maximum media attention didn't coincide with the market bottom, but I noticed that when the Japanese had their Tsunami earlier this year, the peak media frenzy coincided nicely with the then market bottom. You of course don't know something has peaked until afterwards, but there were definite signs that the peak had passed, and things were returning to normal. That would have been the time to buy.

Not very scientific, I know.
